Freshmen Connect is a two-day retreat that will take place at Highland Lakes Camp and Conference Center, located 30 miles west of Austin. It begins on Friday, August 27th, in the late afternoon, and ends the next day, around 10 p.m. During the camp you can expect lots of fun, engaging activities along with some messages that will equip you for college life as a Christian.
Each participant in Freshmen Connect is placed in a group with other freshmen, upper classmen and campus ministers. These groups will be together for activities, bible study, and other events throughout the day. The goal is to provide you with plenty of opportunity to get to know those in your group so you have some positive, lasting companionships before you leave.
Dinner, Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. You will be fed!
During the retreat there will be a few teachings from speakers who have spent a good amount of time studying the Word and are advanced in their Christian life, including a session with a UT professor of bio-medical engineering, Dr. Ken Diller. Topics will range from God's purpose to living life as a Christian in college.
Freshmen Connect is full of fun activities. We have various games throughout the weekend as well as a scavenger hunt on Saturday. Our final activity is the capstone of the entire retreat: a t-shirt design project.
On Saturday, your group will meet to have a small Bible Study covering topics discussed in the messages. This time to delve into God's Word provides a great sampling of what we do all throughout the semester.
You will have an opportunity to ask questions to upper classmen and UT alumni. This a great opportunity to ask your toughest questions on the Chrisitan faith and life as a college student.
